Do you wake up with:
- a racing heart
- tight chest
- a sense of dread
- anxious thoughts immediately
That’s called morning anxiety.
It doesn’t mean your life is bad.
It means your nervous system is activating before your mind catches up.
Why anxiety is worse in the morning
1. Cortisol is highest in the morning
This is normal — but if you’re anxious, it feels overwhelming.
2. Anticipation of the day
Your brain starts scanning for stress before you even get out of bed.
3. Low blood sugar
After sleeping, your body needs fuel.
Low blood sugar can increase anxiety symptoms.
The 5-minute morning reset
Before checking your phone:
1️⃣ Sit up slowly
2️⃣ Take 5 slow breaths
3️⃣ Drink water
4️⃣ Eat something small (banana, yogurt, toast)
5️⃣ Step into natural light
This tells your nervous system:
👉 you are safe
👉 the day is manageable
What not to do
Avoid immediately:
❌ checking emails
❌ social media
❌ caffeine on an empty stomach
These increase anxiety.
